The Mill

One mill.
Three generations.
One standard.

Every Maison Oak board begins with European oak sourced from responsibly managed forests in Central Europe, selected for grain, stability, and character.

Production is handled by a single third-generation mill in Central Europe, specialising exclusively in engineered timber flooring. We don't source from multiple suppliers. We don't switch mills based on price. Consistency matters more than margin.

The mill produces to one standard across every board. Volume production is not part of their business. This means every piece receives the same level of attention from oak selection through to final inspection.

Engineered for Australian conditions, the stable multi-layer construction maintains its form and finish through seasonal changes in temperature and humidity. Each board is built to perform flawlessly and last for decades.

Board Construction

Four layers.
One board.

European Oak Wear Layer

The visible surface. Sourced from Central European oak forests certified to PEFC standards. Kiln-dried to 8–10% moisture content before processing. The 3-4mm thickness allows for multiple sanding and refinishing cycles over the life of the floor.

Structural Adhesive Bond

The wear layer is bonded to the core using a structural adhesive that meets E0 formaldehyde emission standards. The bond is tested under thermal cycling conditions to ensure performance over hydronic heating systems.

Eucalyptus Multi-Ply Core

The structural core is constructed from multiple alternating layers of eucalyptus veneer, cross-laminated at 90° to each other. This construction provides exceptional dimensional stability — the floor will not cup, bow, or gap under normal Australian conditions.

Balancing Backing Veneer

A balancing veneer on the underside of the board prevents cupping by equalising the moisture response across the full thickness of the board. This layer is critical for performance over hydronic heating systems.

Quality Control

Every board.
Every batch.

Every Maison Oak board is inspected at the mill before packing. Every batch is tested for moisture content, dimensional accuracy, and finish quality before it leaves Central Europe. On arrival in Australia, a sample from each batch is inspected again before release.

We maintain batch records for every order. If a quality issue arises after installation, we can trace the board back to its production batch and provide full documentation.
