How to Choose the Right Oak Floor Colour for Your Space
The floor sets the tone for every material decision that follows. Light, mid, or dark — each family creates a fundamentally different spatial experience.
Start with light
Light oak tones like Lune and Sable expand a space visually. They reflect natural light, making rooms feel larger and more open. In south-facing rooms or spaces with limited glazing, a light tone prevents the floor from absorbing what little light enters.
Light floors also provide a neutral canvas for furniture and art. They work particularly well in Scandinavian-influenced interiors, coastal homes, and spaces where the architecture — not the materials — should be the focal point.
The mid-tone sweet spot
Mid tones like Pierre and Ardent are the most versatile. They complement both warm and cool palettes, work with most stone and joinery finishes, and age gracefully.
If you are specifying for a client who may change their interiors over time, mid tones offer the most flexibility. They anchor a room without dominating it, and they hide everyday wear better than light or dark extremes.

Going dark with confidence
Dark tones like Nocturne and Bonne Nuit are statement decisions. They ground a space and create dramatic contrast with lighter walls and furnishings. Dark floors make a room feel more intimate and cocooning.
The trade-off: they show dust, scratches, and foot traffic more readily than lighter tones. Matte finishes help — they diffuse light rather than reflecting it, which minimises the visibility of surface marks.
Dark tones work best in spaces with abundant natural light. Without it, a dark floor can make a room feel heavy.

Never specify from a screen. Monitors display colour differently, and photographs are taken under controlled lighting that does not match real-world conditions.
Order physical samples and view them in the actual space at different times of day. Morning light, afternoon sun, and artificial evening light all shift the perceived colour dramatically. What looks warm at midday can read grey at dusk.
